Leaning Into Darkness & Light
I wonder if the snow loves the trees and fields, that it kisses them so gently? And then it covers them up snug, you know, with a white quilt; and perhaps it says, “Go to sleep, darlings, till the summer comes again.” ~ Lewis Carroll
On this winter solstice, I’m reminded that we hold both darkness and light, both heaviness and hope, both grief and joy.
This year has taught me again and again that we contain multitudes. We are living contradictions, vessels for both darkness and light, and we deny ourselves the wholeness of our experience when we consistently push one away.
If you’re feeling draped in the heaviness right now, can you take a moment to look for the light?
And if you’ve been avoiding the darkness, can you let yourself turn toward it—just for a moment—trusting that hope will still find you?
May we accept winter’s invitation to be covered up snugly and to turn inward, knowing that summer will come again.
And as we look forward to 2021, may we remember that our goal is not to be better versions of ourselves, but to be truer to ourselves.
I have some new things coming in January that I can’t wait to share with you! Until then, I wish you peace and joy as we celebrate, grieve, rest, reflect, and look ahead to brighter days.
