Ready to Hit “Refresh” on 2020?
The mornings are starting to get crisp here in Pennsylvania. For me, September has always brought new energy. I feel the familiar tug of the school supply aisle, and I crave the smell of newly sharpened pencils. I recall all the times I picked out my outfit for the first day of school and long for that nervous anticipation of something fresh and new.
I don’t know about you, but I could use something fresh and new. I need a reset. I need some good anticipation of what could be and the energy of possibility.
Here’s the good news about that: We can start again whenever we want to. So I decided I’m starting 2020 over again.
A couple of weeks ago, I sat down and did what I do every January: I envisioned what I want my year to feel like (I always start with how I want to feel, not what I want to do). I created a new word of the year. I made a new vision board. I set new intentions.
Let me tell you, it felt pretty amazing to shake off some of the 2020 ick and hit “refresh.”
I don’t know what else this year will bring (and sometimes I shudder to think), but I know I want to be someone who shows up with more ease and more trust. I want to be someone who prioritizes rest, connection, and play. I get to decide what that looks like (and for me, that’s a vision board full of things like books and snuggles and hikes and play forts and mindfulness).
What do you want the last few months of 2020 to feel like for you? How do you want to show up? What do you need more of in your life right now?
Capture some of that back-to-school energy, and give yourself the chance to recenter and reset. That can look like writing out some intentions or making a vision board, but it can also be as simple as picking a word or a phrase that you want to bring yourself back to over the next few months.
2020 isn’t what any of us planned, but that doesn’t mean we don’t get to decide who we want to be in the middle of it all.
Let’s sharpen those pencils and give ourselves a chance to start something new.
