The Power of Play

“The opposite of play is not work; the opposite of play is depression.” - Dr. Stuart Brown

Brene Brown recently reminded me of this truth: we need the restorative power of play. Play brings us pleasure, helps us regulate our emotions, and keeps us engaged in the present moment.

Yes, please, to all of that.

I’m doing my best to treat play as an essential, especially right now as I feel my back up against the six-month pandemic wall.

Right now, my play looks like lots of reading, long walks, family hikes, binge watching Schitt’s Creek, and designing my new home office space.

What are you doing simply for the joy of it? What activities bring you pleasure and make you lose track of time?
