Who’s Telling You to Play Small?

When a voice says to you that you can’t or that you shouldn’t do something, who’s talking to you? Is it your voice that you’re listening to?

Or does the voice belong to your parents? To the messages of our culture? To that primal part of your brain that’s freaking out in case it’s about to be eaten by a lion?

We hear “I can’t” and “I shouldn’t,” and we believe them to be the truth with a capital T. We let those thoughts override our inner knowing.

We spin and we spin, while deep inside, our real truth keeps trying to get our attention.

And then we wonder why we feel so tired, why we feel frustrated, why we can’t shake the feeling that something is missing.

Next time you hear a voice telling you not to do something that’s calling to you, pay attention to who’s talking. Is it your truth? Or is it someone else’s?

If you have no idea whose voice you’re listening to—or how to quiet the noise—you aren’t alone. Life coaching can help. Let’s talk about how we can get your inner wisdom in the driver’s seat and convince those outside voices to move to the back.
