On Courage
For oh-so-many years, I told myself that I wasn’t brave. I was the rule-follower, the upholder, the cautious one. NEVER the daredevil, never the rebel. What did I know about courage and risk?
What started as a series of experiences became a story that I told myself. I am not brave enough. I prefer safety. I could never do that.
Here is the not-so-secret secret that I will share with you: Courage is something we cultivate. It is something that we practice. And it takes many forms.
We need a lot of courage today, my friends. We CAN be the courageous ones. YOU can be the courageous one. It is not an inherent personality trait; it is a skill that you practice.
If you are not feeling brave, try taking one step outside of your comfort zone, then pay attention to what happens. (Spoiler alert: most of our worst fears never come to pass). Keep stepping forward into the discomfort, little by little, day by day.
I’ll be over here doing the same, working my own courage muscles, one step at a time.
Let’s rewrite our stories together.
If you’d like a little help with cultivating your courage, reach out. I’d love to talk about how we can work together to write a new story.
